Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed strong optimism that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will return to power in the 2028 general elections, stressing that the party will draw on its legacy of governance under his leadership and that of former President John Agyekum Kufuor

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has voiced strong confidence in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) prospects for reclaiming power in the 2028 general elections, emphasizing the party’s track record under his administration and that of former President John Agyekum Kufuor as a foundation for victory.

Speaking at a private NPP stakeholders’ forum in Accra on Tuesday, Akufo-Addo urged party faithful to remain united and highlight achievements like the Free Senior High School policy, Agenda 111 hospitals, and infrastructure projects. “The NPP has a proven legacy of transformative governance under President Kufuor and my tenure. In 2028, Ghanaians will remember and reward that progress,” he stated, per sources at the event.

The remarks come amid the NPP’s post-2024 election introspection, with Akufo-Addo defending his eight-year record despite criticisms over economic challenges. He called for internal reforms, youth empowerment, and a compelling manifesto to counter the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NPP, holding 135 parliamentary seats, begins regional executive elections next month, setting the stage for 2028.
