Former GES Deputy Director-General Donates 2,000 Books to Boost Literacy in Goaso Schools

Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, former Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access at the Ghana Education Service (GES), has donated 2,000 reading books to five basic schools in Goaso, Ahafo Region, to enhance literacy and academic performance among pupils.

The donation, presented during a brief ceremony, benefited Methodist, Anglican, Presby, Roman Catholic, and Islamic basic schools. Speaking to Adom News, Dr. Tandoh emphasized the critical role of reading in education, stating that strong literacy skills are foundational for success across all academic levels.

He described the initiative as an investment in the future of young learners and thanked former Second Lady Samira Bawumia and former Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for their support in facilitating the donation.

Linda Berchie, Headteacher of Goaso Methodist Basic School, accepted the books on behalf of the schools and expressed gratitude for the gesture. She noted that a lack of reading materials had previously hampered the implementation of the GES’s early morning reading policy.

Berchie expressed optimism that the books would significantly improve educational standards in the region.

This donation follows Dr. Tandoh’s recent support to Goaso Municipal Hospital, reflecting his ongoing commitment to community development in the Ahafo Region.
