Foreign Minister Ablakwa Holds Virtual Meeting with Ghana’s Envoys in Middle East Amid Regional Tensions

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa convened an emergency virtual meeting on Tuesday, March 3, with Ghana’s Ambassadors and Consuls General stationed across the Middle East to review the rapidly evolving security situation and coordinate additional consular measures for the protection of Ghanaian nationals.
The session included Heads of Mission from Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Turkey — countries directly or indirectly affected by the ongoing military escalation involving US-Israel strikes and Iranian retaliatory actions.
In a Facebook post following the engagement, the Minister provided a reassuring update on the welfare of Ghanaians in the region.
“I am glad to report that so far no Ghanaian has been killed or injured,” Mr Ablakwa wrote. “We have put together a reliable database of all Ghanaians in these countries, including those who were on short visits and those who were transiting.”
He disclosed that all missions have been instructed to identify any Ghanaian citizens within their jurisdictions who wish to be evacuated, so the government can urgently consider their requests.
“Meanwhile, our diplomatic missions are currently assisting a considerable number of Ghanaians escape across certain strategic border crossings,” he added.
The Minister concluded with a firm reaffirmation of government priority.
“The safety and welfare of all Ghanaians remains our utmost priority. For God and Country.”
The virtual meeting reflects the government’s proactive diplomatic response to the Middle East crisis, which has already led to airspace closures, flight cancellations — including routes from Accra to Dubai — and shelter-in-place advisories for Ghanaians in Qatar and other Gulf states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to monitor developments closely and has urged all Ghanaians in the affected countries to register with their nearest mission, avoid non-essential travel and follow official guidance for their safety.
