Five Killed in Head-On Collision on Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway

Five people have lost their lives following a fatal head-on collision involving a Toyota Hiace bus and a DAF truck at Ayensudo Meyinda on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.

The accident occurred on Saturday, December 20, under circumstances that are yet to be fully established. Both vehicles — the DAF truck with registration number GG 3227-25 and the Toyota Hiace bus registered GW 9373-22 — were badly mangled as a result of the impact.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly after receiving a distress call, deploying a rescue team from the Komenda Fire Station to the scene.

Firefighters worked meticulously to extricate the five deceased passengers, who were trapped inside the Hiace bus. The GNFS team also collaborated with other emergency and security agencies to provide operational support, retrieve the bodies, and clear the wreckage from the highway.

In addition to the rescue operation, the firefighters cleared debris from the road to restore traffic flow and ensure the safety of other road users.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, while authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution on the highways, particularly during peak travel periods.

The incident once again underscores the critical role of the GNFS and other emergency services in managing road traffic accidents and protecting public safety.
