Fisherman Kofi Nyan Arrested for Defiling 13-Year-Old, Four Accomplices on the Run

The Central Regional Police Command has arrested 49-year-old fisherman Samuel Armah, alias Kofi Nyan, for the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl in Mumford, a suburb of Apam, following a viral video exposing the heinous act.

The incident, which occurred on October 16, 2025, prompted swift action by the Apam District Police Command, who, with assistance from the Mumford task force, apprehended the suspect on October 17 after receiving a tip-off around 1:00 p.m.

According to a police statement, Kofi Nyan lured the minor into a ghetto in Mumford, where he committed the assault. The victim was promptly sent to St. Luke Catholic Hospital for medical examination and treatment, with findings confirming sexual assault, per a confidential medical report.

The case, now under the Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), saw Nyan admit to the offense during interrogation. He was arraigned before the Apam Circuit Court on October 23, charged under Section 101 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and detained pending further proceedings.

The police are now hunting four accomplices—Agoogo, Edina, Kwesi Abbam, and Agya Ankoto—who remain at large, urging the public to provide tips via hotlines 18555 or 0299205854, or at any police station.

“The command assures the general public that justice will be served,” the statement read, emphasizing zero tolerance for sexual crimes, which have surged by 12% in the Central Region since 2024, with 320 defilement cases reported this year alone.

The case has sparked outrage, with community leaders in Mumford demanding stricter patrols and child protection measures.
