Fire Destroys Two Container Shops at Lapaz, Accra

Wedding decorations and electrical equipment worth thousands of cedis have been completely destroyed after a fire gutted two container shops at Lapaz, near Access Bank, on Tuesday morning.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at about 8:13 a.m. reporting the outbreak involving the two container shops.

Firefighters from the Anyaa Fire Station, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I Kissi Mensah, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the crew found the containers fully engulfed in flames. Despite challenges at the location, the firefighters successfully contained and completely extinguished the fire within an hour.

The affected containers were used for storing wedding and party decorations as well as selling electrical equipment — all of which were completely destroyed in the blaze.

Fortunately, adjoining structures were successfully protected from the fire.

No casualties were recorded during the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by the unattended burning of refuse near one of the shops, which spread and ignited the containers.

The GNFS has urged the public to be cautious with open flames, refuse disposal, and the use of electrical appliances to prevent similar incidents.

The exact value of the losses is yet to be determined, but the destruction has dealt a significant blow to the affected business owners.
