Fire at Akosombo Substation Disrupts Power Supply – GRIDCo

The Ghana Grid Company Limited has announced that a fire outbreak at the Akosombo Substation has disrupted electricity supply in parts of the country.

According to GRIDCo, the incident occurred at approximately 2:01 p.m. on Thursday, triggering an immediate emergency response. The company indicated that the fire affected both power generation and transmission on the national grid, leading to outages across several areas.

Emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the scene to contain the fire, while engineers began efforts to stabilise the system and minimise the impact on consumers.

GRIDCo noted that technical experts are currently assessing the extent of the damage and working to outline steps for the full restoration of power supply.

The company assured the public that the situation is under control and that restoring electricity remains its top priority. It also urged residents to remain calm as work continues to bring the system back to normal.
