Fatal Crash on Accra–Cape Coast Highway Claims One Life, Injures 19

A tragic early morning accident on the Accra–Cape Coast Highway has resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to 19 others, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns on this busy route.

The collision occurred around 5:30 a.m. in front of the NDC Regional Office in Cape Coast, involving a stationary Man Diesel truck (registration WR 1546-V), which had broken down, and a Mercedes Sprinter bus (CR 623-25) traveling toward Cape Coast.

Eyewitnesses reported the bus collided with the parked truck while overtaking another vehicle, trapping several passengers inside the wreckage.

Rescue teams from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and National Ambulance Service responded swiftly, extricating three trapped victims from the bus. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 19 injured passengers were rushed to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The Ghana Police Service and National Road Safety Authority managed traffic and secured the area, with investigations underway into the cause, likely driver error during the overtake.

This incident adds to a string of fatal crashes on the highway, including a September 16 event with one death at Nkanfoa Junction and another on September 6 claiming eight lives at Kormantse.

Authorities have renewed calls for caution, especially around stalled vehicles and overtaking maneuvers.
