Emergency Shutdown at Kpeve Headworks to Disrupt Water Supply in Volta Region

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in the Volta Region has announced an emergency shutdown of the Kpeve Headworks starting Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 5:00 a.m., to carry out urgent repairs on a major fault in its raw water infrastructure.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 20, GWL explained that a serious leakage was detected on the raw water transmission line, making immediate intervention necessary to prevent further damage and ensure long-term reliability of water supply.

The shutdown will result in a temporary interruption of water supply to several communities, including:

  • Ho Township
  • Kpeve
  • Peki
  • Surrounding areas

GWL assured customers that engineers will work swiftly to complete the repairs and resume water production as soon as possible.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to store adequate water in advance and make necessary preparations to minimize inconvenience during the shutdown period.

The company apologised for the disruption and appealed for the patience and cooperation of customers while the critical maintenance work is carried out. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
