Ejisu, Ashanti Region, Ghana – Assembly Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly are considering passing a vote of no confidence in the Municipal Chief Executive, Jerryne Asante, accusing her of misconduct, financial impropriety and repeatedly failing to carry out decisions of the General Assembly.
In a statement dated July 24, 2026, the Assembly Members said they had resolved unanimously to pass a vote of no confidence in the MCE, arguing that her conduct since assuming office goes contrary to the direct interest of the Ejisu Municipality.
According to the statement available to Metro TV, several attempts had been made to address concerns about her leadership, but the situation had instead worsened.
The Assembly Members said Ms Asante had appeared before the Assembly’s Public Relations and Complaints Committee in April over a number of allegations. They said the committee’s recommendations were presented to the General Assembly on April 30, 2026, and she was given a two-week ultimatum to address them.
Among the issues raised was the alleged failure to enforce the demolition of part of a building at Akyawkrom that had encroached on a road despite a court ruling.
They also accused the MCE and her personal aide of diverting GH¢29,000 collected from a company on August 1, 2025. According to the Assembly Members, the money, which was meant to be paid to the Assembly as property rates and business operating permit fees, was allegedly used to exchange 32 packets of roofing sheets for her personal use, thereby denying the Assembly the much-needed internally generated funds to manage the Municipality.
They claimed she was directed by the General Assembly to refund the money within two weeks but had failed to do so.
The Assembly Members further accused the MCE of failing to take over warehouses handed to the Assembly by COCOBOD, refusing to remove laterite used to fill a wetland near River Bafo without Assembly approval, and failing to regularise trading activities on land belonging to the Ghana Railway Authority at Ejisu.
They also alleged that Ms Asante had personally benefited from renting out two of five warehouses previously handed over to the Assembly. The statement claimed she used the proceeds for her personal gains without accounting for the money to the Assembly to finance developmental activities. It further alleged that proceeds from renting the remaining warehouses were taken by some party officials, with the Assembly receiving nothing from the transactions.
In addition to the financial allegations, the Assembly Members questioned the MCE’s understanding of local governance and accused her of disregarding decisions taken by the General Assembly. They said this had created tension between her and senior officials within the Assembly.
“When she wants to do something and the officers advise her that it should be done in a way that it will not create a problem for the Assembly, then she takes it personal and it becomes an issue,” the statement said.
The Assembly Members further alleged that within a year in office, Ms Asante had influenced the transfer of six heads of department, three middle-level officers and, more recently, the Municipal Coordinating Director. They claimed efforts were also underway to transfer the Municipal Police Commander.
According to them, these actions had demoralized all the Assembly Members, the Heads of Department and the general staff. They also referred to complaints from traders over poor sanitation conditions and alleged extortion by the MCE’s aide.
The Assembly Members insisted their decision was not driven by personal differences.
“We wish to state categorically clear that we do not have any personal issue against Hon Jerryne Asante even though she is not the type of a leader who listens to advice,” they said.
They concluded by calling on the President to replace the MCE.
“We therefore have no option than to pass this vote of no confidence in Hon. Jerryne Asante so that the President can replace her for the faster and smooth development of the Ejisu Municipality.”
