Driver’s Mate on the Run After Allegedly Stabbing Colleague Over Bleaching Accusation

A driver’s mate at Kronum, near Kumasi, is on the run after allegedly stabbing his colleague in the neck with a broken bottle during a dispute over an accusation of skin bleaching.
The suspect, identified only as Mallachy, is alleged to have attacked Gabriel Arhin at about 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2026, at Kronum Kyerease. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
According to the Suame District Police, the two men, who are friends and drivers’ mates residing in Kronum, had met at a beer bar to have a drink when the suspect accused Arhin of bleaching his skin. The accusation reportedly angered the victim, leading to a physical confrontation between the two.
Although bystanders managed to separate them, Mallachy allegedly remained furious. Police say he later broke a Coca-Cola bottle and stabbed Arhin in the neck.
In a police statement, authorities confirmed that the victim’s father, Kwadwo Oheme Williams, reported the incident. Officers subsequently visited the Accident and Emergency Ward of KATH, where the victim was found on admission and responding to treatment. Statements have since been taken from both the complainant and the victim, and a police medical report form has been issued for further documentation.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the area and has since gone into hiding. Police say efforts are underway to locate and arrest him to assist with ongoing investigations.
