Dormaa East NPP Demands Answers Over Demolition of Lorry Terminal and Astroturf Projects

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Dormaa East District has questioned the demolition of portions of the lorry terminal and the removal of chippings from the stalled Astroturf project at Wamfie, demanding explanations from the NDC government and the Member of Parliament for the area.

Speaking at a press conference, Dormaa East NPP Director of Communications, Ransford Nkum, said construction of the NDC’s 24-hour economy market had resulted in the destruction of sections of pavement blocks and a modern toilet facility at the lorry terminal, which he said were constructed under the Nana Addo-led NPP administration.

He described the development as inappropriate and called on the authorities to explain why the existing facilities were being demolished instead of being preserved.

Mr Nkum further alleged that a grader had been deployed to remove chippings from the surface of a stalled Astroturf project at Wamfie, the district capital. The project was initiated by the former MP, Hon. Paul Apraku Twum Barimah, with the current MP, Hon. Rachael Ama Owusuaa, reportedly promising to complete it.

According to him, the NPP was informed that the MP and the District Chief Executive had authorised the ongoing activity, raising concerns about the project’s future.

The NPP Communications Director also questioned the MP’s earlier statements regarding the project’s funding. He said the MP had initially indicated that the project could not be traced in Ghana Gas documents but later reportedly acknowledged that the relevant documents had been identified and that work would resume.

Mr Nkum said the removal of the chippings had therefore left the party seeking clarity on the project’s status and the government’s intentions.

The Dormaa East NPP is consequently demanding answers from the MP and the relevant authorities over the demolition of portions of the lorry terminal and the activities at the Astroturf site. The party wants an explanation for the removal of the existing facilities and materials, as well as a clear commitment on whether the stalled Astroturf project will be completed.
