Dome Kwabenya NPP Delegates Queue from 11 PM Ahead of Flagbearer Primary

Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency began queuing as early as 11:00 PM on Friday, January 30, at the Dome Kwabenya Football Park — about eight hours before the official start of voting at 7:00 AM today, Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Despite the chilly night breeze, several delegates stayed overnight, determined to secure their spot early in the keenly anticipated presidential primaries to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

With Dome Kwabenya having one of the largest delegate counts in the region — exceeding 2,000 — many feared long queues and hours of waiting under the sun if they arrived on Saturday morning.

“I came around 11 PM. We are determined to select a candidate who can lead us to victory in 2028,” one loyal delegate told JoyNews’ Michael Papanii Ashalley, who visited the centre.

By 6:00 AM today, around 27 delegates were already standing under three marquees, ready to cast their ballots.

The Electoral Commission (EC) and the NPP Presidential Election Committee have put in place a streamlined walk-in process with police ensuring order and security. Delegates must present approved ID (Voter’s ID, NPP Membership Card, National Passport or Ghana Card) and are banned from bringing phones or foreign materials into the inner voting zones.

The NPP has urged all delegates nationwide to remain disciplined, peaceful and accept the outcome, with results expected later today after voting and counting conclude at the centres.

All eyes are on the process as the party chooses the leader who will carry its flag into the 2028 elections.
