Clean Up Accra Exercise Persists at Pig Farm Despite Heavy Rains

The Clean Up Accra team has continued its intensive sanitation and desilting operations at Pig Farm and other communities within the Ayawaso Central Municipality, pushing through heavy rainfall as the campaign enters its fourth day.

The initiative, spearheaded by Zoomlion Ghana Limited in partnership with Channel One TV and the Ghana Police Service, focuses on clearing choked drains, removing accumulated waste, and restoring natural water channels to help mitigate flooding and improve overall environmental hygiene in flood-prone areas.

On Day 4, workers intensified desilting efforts at Pig Farm, a community that frequently suffers from poor drainage and flooding during the rainy season. Despite the persistent downpour, the team remained on site, supported by security personnel to maintain order and ensure smooth operations.

Organisers emphasised that the exercise goes beyond immediate clean-up. It is also intended to raise public awareness about responsible waste disposal and the importance of keeping drainage systems free from obstructions.

The Clean Up Accra campaign is expected to extend to additional communities within the Ayawaso Central Municipality in the coming days as part of a broader effort to promote a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient capital city.

This sustained operation highlights the commitment of both public and private stakeholders to tackling sanitation challenges and reducing the impact of flooding in urban Accra.
