Chiefs and People of Acherensua Commend Government for Plans to Establish University in the Community

The chiefs and people of Acherensua in the Ahafo Region have expressed strong appreciation to the government for its decision to establish a university in their community.

At a press conference, the Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Mintah Yeboah II, noted that successive governments had failed to prioritise the establishment of a university in Acherensua over the years. She described the current government’s move as a bold and commendable step toward addressing long-standing educational and developmental needs in the area.

Nana Mintah Yeboah II specifically acknowledged the contributions of Alhaji Collins Dauda (MP for the area), Charity Gardiner (Minister for the Ahafo Region), and Benjamin Assabil Donkor (District Chief Executive for Asutifi South). She appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Education to expedite the necessary processes so that construction work can begin promptly and the university can be commissioned within the current presidential term.

Meanwhile, the Akyempimhene, Nana Aduse-Poku, emphasised the expected economic and social benefits of the new institution. He noted that towns and cities hosting universities often experience accelerated development across various sectors, including infrastructure, commerce, and human capital growth. He expressed confidence that the university would similarly transform Acherensua into a vibrant educational and economic hub.

The establishment of the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (with Bunsu as the main campus and Acherensua as one of the additional campuses) is part of the government’s broader agenda to decentralise tertiary education and bring quality higher learning closer to underserved regions.

The chiefs and people of Acherensua remain hopeful that the project will move forward swiftly to realise the long-awaited dream of having a university in their community.
