Chairman Wontumi’s Two Mining Cases Postponed to November 12 and December 4

The two court cases involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have been postponed.

The first case, which accuses him of allowing mining on his concession at Samreboi without the needed approval, has been adjourned to November 12, 2025. The delay came after prosecutors asked for more time to share some documents with the defense team.

The second case, where Wontumi is said to have carried out mining in the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve without permission, has also been moved to December 4, 2025, because the presiding judge is currently on leave.

It was also expected that the Attorney General’s Office would officially drop the charges against Edward Akuoko, the General Manager of Akonta Mining, a company owned by Wontumi. Mr. Akuoko will now serve as a witness for the prosecution.

The cases continue to draw public attention due to the government’s ongoing fight against illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana.
