Chairman Wontumi Announces Bid for NPP National Chairman Position

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Ashanti Regional Chairman made the announcement during a gathering of party supporters, where he pledged to focus on unity, grassroots empowerment, and strengthening the party’s structures from the polling station level upward.

In his statement, Wontumi emphasized that the NPP must remain united and connected to its base if it is to successfully challenge the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.

“I am offering myself to serve as National Chairman because I believe the party needs strong leadership that listens to the grassroots, empowers the foot soldiers, and unites all factions behind a common vision,” he said.

He promised to work toward:

Better welfare and recognition for party foot soldiers

Improved internal democracy and transparency

Stronger financial discipline and resource mobilization

Reconciliation among all party members after the recent flagbearer contest

A renewed focus on winning elections at every level

Chairman Wontumi’s declaration comes ahead of the NPP’s upcoming national delegates conference, where elections for national executives — including the National Chairman position — are expected to take place.

His entry into the race is already generating significant interest and discussion within the party, particularly given his long-standing influence in the Ashanti Region and his vocal role in NPP politics.

No other candidates have formally declared for the National Chairman position at the time of this announcement, though several names have been mentioned in party circles.

The NPP is expected to release the official timetable and guidelines for national executive elections in the coming weeks.
