Celebrities and Mourners Gather at Daddy Lumba’s Home to Pay Respects After His Passing

Following the confirmed passing of Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, on July 26, 2025, at The Bank Hospital in Accra, a wave of grief has swept the nation, with celebrities, politicians, and fans flocking to his East Legon residence to console his wife, Maame Broni, and their children.

The Fosu family, through their legal counsel Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., announced the musician’s death after a brief illness, prompting an outpouring of tributes and emotional scenes at his home.

Notable figures, including media personality Serwaa Amihere, Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus), and others, were seen at the residence, dressed in black and red, mourning the icon whose career spanned over three decades with hits like Aben Wo Ha and Yentie Obiaa.

A viral video captured A-Plus engaging with mourners, while Serwaa Amihere, a known Lumba superfan, shared her heartbreak on X, stating, “I am heartbroken and sad because a friend has passed. RIP to the legend Daddy Lumba.” A female mourner told GhanaWeb TV that Lumba’s music was a profound source of motivation, reflecting the deep personal impact of his work.

The family’s statement, shared via Daddy Lumba’s official Facebook page and confirmed by Daddy Lumba FM, described him as a “cultural icon whose music touched countless lives,” requesting privacy during this time of grief.

Former President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and musicians like Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and King Promise joined the tributes, with Bawumia noting, “His passing is a huge blow not only to the music fraternity but to the entire country.”

Despite earlier conflicting reports, with sources like Andy Dosty initially claiming Lumba was alive, the family’s official confirmation has quelled doubts.

The gathering at his home underscores the immense void left by the 60-year-old highlife maestro, whose 33 albums and mentorship of artists like Ofori Amponsah cemented his legacy as Ghana’s greatest musician. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
