Botswana Ruling Party Unveils Manifesto Ahead of Crucial Election
The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has launched its manifesto for the upcoming general election, setting the stage for a highly contested presidential race. President Mokgweetsi Masisi, seeking re-election, presented the manifesto as a “blueprint for a future where every Botswanan can thrive.”
The BDP’s vision promises an economy that works for all, fair wages, rule of law, and a secure home and country. Key priorities include job creation, democracy, and strengthening the financial system. Masisi highlighted the party’s achievements, including mineral beneficiation and partnerships with companies for diamond processing.
The election, scheduled for October, will see Masisi face opposition from Duma Boko and Dumelang Saleshando. Former president Ian Khama has pledged to overthrow Masisi, claiming he poses a danger to democracy.
