Black Stars to Face Mexico in High-Profile Friendly Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The Black Stars of Ghana will step up their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a prestigious international friendly against Mexico in May.

The two nations are scheduled to clash on Friday, May 22, 2026, at a venue in Mexico still to be confirmed.

The fixture forms part of Ghana’s build-up to the global tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. It offers head coach Otto Addo another valuable opportunity to assess players in contention for final World Cup selection.

Ghana’s scheduled preparatory matches now total three:

The May clash with Mexico

Otto Addo is expected to name his squad for the European double-header in the coming days as he continues shaping the team.

At the World Cup itself, Ghana begin their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England (June 23) and Croatia (June 27) in what promises to be a fiercely competitive group.

Mexico, meanwhile, open the tournament in Group A against South Africa on June 11, with remaining fixtures against one of South Korea, Czech Republic, Denmark, Republic of Ireland or North Macedonia.

After early exits in the 2014 and 2022 editions, the four-time African champions will be eager to make a stronger statement this summer and reassert their pedigree on football’s biggest stage.

The Mexico friendly adds further quality opposition to Ghana’s pre-tournament schedule, helping the technical team fine-tune tactics and player combinations ahead of the global showpiece.
