“Bawumia Commits To Solar Power Revolution To Reduce Electricity Costs”
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced an ambitious plan to lower Ghana's energy costs by shifting from fuel-based to solar power if elected president.
In a recent address to clergy in the Upper East region, Dr. Bawumia unveiled his ambitious plan to introduce approximately 2000 megawatts of solar energy within his first four years in office. This initiative, which aims to provide nearly half of Ghana’s current power consumption, could potentially lead to a significant reduction in electricity costs by up to 50%. Dr. Bawumia emphasized his goal of transitioning Ghana from fuel-generated power to solar-generated power as a means to lower power costs. He highlighted the abundance of solar energy in Ghana, which he described as a free resource provided by nature, contrasting it with the expenses associated with importing fuel. Additionally, Dr. Bawumia expressed his vision for Ghana to become a leading manufacturer of solar panels, with the intention of supplying other African nations. This groundbreaking proposal signals a major shift in Ghana’s energy policy, with far-reaching implications for economic and environmental sustainability in the region.
