Barimah Atuahene Calls for Removal of Former Hearts of Oak Board Members

Former Hearts of Oak management member Barimah Atuahene has called on the club’s majority shareholder, Togbe Afede XIV, to dismiss former board members Vincent Sowah Odotei and Alhaji Braimah Akambi from the club’s leadership, citing their continued involvement as a major factor behind the club’s recent struggles.
Atuahene’s comments come amid growing concern over the Phobians’ decline after a period of success under former head coach Samuel Boadu, during which the club won five trophies across the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. Since then, Hearts of Oak have struggled to maintain consistency and competitiveness.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Atuahene was emphatic that the club’s fortunes would not improve as long as the two former board members remain influential.
“With Odotei and Akambi around Hearts of Oak, the club will continue to struggle. These people have been around the team, and the team keeps retrogressing,” he said.
He urged Togbe Afede to act decisively, aligning himself with supporters who have repeatedly called for changes in the club’s leadership.
“I think it is about time that Togbe Afede sacks these people from the club. The supporters want them out, and I agree with the call by the fans,” Atuahene added.
Atuahene further stressed the need for a more competent and accountable management structure, arguing that significant financial investment by the club’s majority shareholder has not translated into on-field success.
“I think Togbe should get competent management that will report directly to him. I am sad anytime I watch Hearts of Oak play. Togbe has spent millions on this team, but they keep failing him,” he stated.
He also pointed to the club’s improved infrastructure, insisting that the current squad should be producing better results given the available facilities.
“With the infrastructure at the club now, these players should be performing, but that is not the case,” he said.
Hearts of Oak were held to a 0-0 draw by Dreams FC on Friday, January 16, at the University of Ghana Stadium, a result that leaves the club temporarily fourth on the league table with 32 points.
