Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed Wins NDC Parliamentary Primary for Ayawaso East

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The primary was held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, to select the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election.
Baba Jamal secured 431 votes, defeating his closest contender Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes, despite being widely seen as a strong favourite going into the contest.
The race featured five cleared aspirants following the party’s vetting process:
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed
Mohammed Ramme (NDC Constituency Chairman)
Hajia Amina Adam (widow of the late MP Mahama Naser Toure)
Yakubu Azindow
Najib Mohammed
The tightly contested primary drew significant attention, including discussions around campaign conduct. Baba Jamal’s campaign had earlier distributed items such as 32-inch television sets and boiled eggs to delegates — gestures he described as acts of goodwill rather than inducements.
Baba Jamal will now represent the NDC in the Ayawaso East by-election, scheduled for March 3, 2026, following the passing of the constituency’s former MP.
The result positions Baba Jamal as the party’s candidate in a constituency that remains politically significant in the Greater Accra Region.
