Ayitey Powers Arrested Over Alleged Death Threat Against NSA Boss

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged threat of death against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo.

The arrest was made on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the circulation of a video on social media in which the former boxer is alleged to have issued the threat.

According to the Police, the 46-year-old Ayitey Powers is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Regional Police Command, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Police said investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat.

“The arrest follows a video circulating on social media in which the suspect is alleged to have issued the threat,” the statement said.

The Command said appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law based on the outcome of the investigations.

The Police have also urged the public to refrain from circulating unverified information concerning the matter while investigations continue.
