Ayawaso West Assembly Seizes Goods from Traders at Unauthorised Market

The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has begun seizing goods belonging to traders who have returned to an unauthorised market around Spanner Junction and the Villaggio area, barely a day after they were evicted.
The Assembly has also deployed municipal guards to the area to prevent traders from returning and re-establishing their businesses at the unauthorised location.
Speaking to Citi News on the second day of the exercise, Head of the Municipal Taskforce, Abubakar Saddick, said traders whose goods are seized will be required to report to the Assembly’s office, where authorities will determine whether to impose fines or prosecute them.
“This time we are seizing their things, and they would have to come to our office where a decision will be made on either fining or taking them to court,” he said.
Mr Saddick said the enforcement team would extend the exercise to Shiashie and Okponglo, adding that similar operations had been conducted in the past but traders repeatedly returned after the areas were cleared.
He said the Assembly would maintain a presence at the affected locations to ensure sustained compliance and prevent traders from returning.
“The issue is, they keep returning. This time we will put people at post to make sure that there is compliance,” he said.
