Nana Kwabena Okyere, the Mmratehene of the Ayanfuri traditional area in the Central Region, has reportedly passed away after sustaining a gunshot wound during a funeral gathering at Ayanfuri in the Upper Denkyira West District.
According to reports, the incident occurred while mourners were attending the funeral of Abusua Panyin Akwasi Kwateng.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the chief attempted to test the effectiveness of a spiritual protection (juju) using a pump-action gun when the unfortunate incident happened.
He was immediately rushed to the Ayanfuri Pentecost Hospital in critical condition.
Medical officials disclosed that he arrived with a severe gunshot wound to the abdomen, with parts of his intestines exposed.
Despite efforts by health personnel to save his life, he reportedly died while receiving treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to be investigated.
