Asiedu Nketia’s Tour Is Not a Hidden Campaign — Dafeamekpor

Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has dismissed claims that NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia is using his nationwide “Thank You Tour” to secretly campaign for a future presidential bid.

Speaking on PM Express, Dafeamekpor explained that Asiedu Nketia has been conducting similar tours since 2021 and insisted the current exercise is simply aimed at appreciating party supporters following the NDC’s 2024 election victory.

According to him, the tour began after President John Dramani Mahama completed his regional engagements following ministerial appointments.

He said concerns were raised within the party that constituency-level supporters who worked hard during the elections had not been properly thanked.

“The party ought to come to the grounds to show gratitude because they fought hard after eight years in opposition,” he stated.

Dafeamekpor noted that the chairman’s engagements with chiefs, queen mothers, party executives, and grassroots supporters should not automatically be interpreted as a presidential campaign.

He also rejected suggestions that the ongoing tour gives Asiedu Nketia an unfair advantage ahead of any future NDC flagbearer contest.

The Majority Chief Whip recalled that the NDC chairman undertook a similar nationwide mobilisation exercise after the disputed 2020 elections, visiting several communities to encourage supporters to remain hopeful ahead of the 2024 polls.

“He wants to assure them that we had won elections, but we were cheated, so they should keep faith with us,” Dafeamekpor said.
