The Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Hon. Ernest Norgbey, has expressed concerns about the tactical approach and player substitutions made by Black Stars head coach Otto Addo during the team’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna.
In an interview with Michael Kofi Oduro, the MP revealed that some senior players in the squad are unhappy with how the match was handled, particularly the timing and choice of substitutions.
“Some senior players are not happy with the way Coach Otto Addo handled the match,” Norgbey said. “The tactics, the timing of the substitutions… it seemed to unsettle the team.”
The comments come in the aftermath of Ghana’s heaviest defeat in 19 years, which has sparked widespread criticism and debate about the team’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Despite the loss and the reported discontent among some players, Coach Addo continues to enjoy the full backing of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). A section of the Ghanaian public and football stakeholders have also defended the coach, citing his efforts to rebuild the team and his leadership during challenging periods.
The Black Stars are scheduled to face Germany in another friendly on Monday, March 30, providing an opportunity for the team to respond to the Austria setback.
The developments have intensified scrutiny on Addo’s tactical decisions as Ghana seeks to improve its performances ahead of crucial World Cup qualification matches.
