Julián Álvarez’s future has become one of the biggest stories of the transfer window, with the Argentine reportedly determined to leave Atletico Madrid and join Barcelona.
However, Atletico have made it clear they do not want to sell the 26-year-old, particularly to Barcelona, creating a bitter dispute that has now spilled over to the club’s supporters.

That situation could provide Arsenal with an unexpected opportunity.
The Gunners have reportedly viewed Álvarez as their dream transfer target throughout the summer, but their interest remained largely inactive because they knew the player’s preference was Barcelona.
Now, with Atletico refusing to sell to Barcelona, Arsenal are reportedly prepared to move quickly if Álvarez changes his mind.

Atletico are reportedly demanding around €150 million (£128 million) for Álvarez.
Arsenal are said to be confident they could finance such a deal and complete it quickly—but only if the player agrees to join.
Reports indicate that Atletico director Mateu Alemany recently met Arsenal representatives in London, with the Spanish club making its financial expectations clear.
There has reportedly been a slight softening in Álvarez’s position in recent days, although he has not yet given Arsenal the green light.
Why Arsenal Believe It Could Work
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly understands that Álvarez would initially be joining because his preferred Barcelona move was blocked.
Nevertheless, Arteta is believed to be confident that the Argentine could eventually become fully committed to the Arsenal project.

Álvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in August 2024 for £81 million.
During his time at Manchester City, he scored 36 goals in 106 appearances and won six major trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League Treble in 2023.
At Atletico, he has scored 49 goals in 107 appearances, although he is yet to win a trophy with the Madrid club.
With the transfer deadline approaching on September 1, the situation could ultimately come down to a simple choice:
Barcelona, Arsenal—or staying at Atletico Madrid.
