Antoine Semenyo Shines Again as Manchester City Defeat Newcastle 2–0

Ghanaian forward Antoine Selorm Semenyo continued his impressive start at Manchester City, earning his second consecutive Man of the Match award after starring in a 2–0 victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup semi-final at St. James’ Park.
The 25-year-old attacker, who made a sensational debut in City’s FA Cup triumph days earlier, once again justified Pep Guardiola’s faith with a decisive performance in just his second appearance for the club.
The encounter was tightly contested in the first half, with Newcastle United setting up a resilient defence that frustrated City’s attacking efforts. Despite a number of half-chances at both ends, the opening 45 minutes ended goalless, as the hosts held firm and City struggled to find a breakthrough.
That breakthrough arrived eight minutes into the second half, courtesy of Semenyo. A dangerous cross from Jeremy Doku, slightly deflected off Bernardo Silva, found the Ghanaian forward at the far post. Semenyo reacted instinctively, powering home a close-range finish to give City a crucial away goal.
The strike highlighted Semenyo’s sharp finishing and positional awareness—qualities that have quickly endeared him to the Etihad faithful. Beyond the goal, his overall display stood out, as he combined physical strength with intelligent movement to trouble Newcastle’s defence throughout the match.
Semenyo’s relentless pressing, link-up play, and tactical discipline played a key role in City’s control of the game, keeping the Magpies under constant pressure.
Manchester City later doubled their advantage through substitute Rayan Cherki, effectively sealing the victory. However, it was Semenyo’s early second-half goal and commanding performance that laid the foundation for City’s success.
With back-to-back Man of the Match awards in his first two appearances, Antoine Semenyo is fast emerging as one of Manchester City’s standout performers and a rising star on the English football scene.
