Anti-gay bill reintroduced to Parliament for consideration

The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill is back on the table in Ghana’s Parliament. Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, confirmed that the bill has been reintroduced for consideration. This bill aims to prohibit LGBT activities and criminalize their promotion, advocacy, and funding.

The bill was previously passed by the 8th Parliament but didn’t receive Presidential assent under President Akufo-Addo’s administration. Now, Ntim Fordjour is urging President John Dramani Mahama to give his assent to the bill once it’s passed by the current Parliament.

Ntim Fordjour expressed confidence that the bill will pass quickly, citing support from chiefs, imams, clergymen, and the speaker. He also mentioned that the coalition that supported the bill previously is still backing it strongly.

The bill’s reintroduction has sparked attention, with many watching to see how it will play out in Parliament.
