Angola Coach Pedro Goncalves: Ghana Faces Uphill Battle for 2025 AFCON Qualification
Angola’s head coach, Pedro Goncalves, has expressed doubts about Ghana’s path to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, citing the Black Stars’ current position in Group F. Speaking ahead of the upcoming qualifier on Friday, November 15, at Estádio 11 de Novembro, Goncalves acknowledged Ghana’s strength but emphasized the challenges they face.
The Black Stars have yet to secure a win after four games, placing them third in Group F with only two points, trailing Angola’s Palancas Negras and Sudan. While Ghana is recognized as one of Africa’s top football nations, their qualification for next year’s tournament in Morocco remains uncertain.
“For us, playing against Ghana is always special,” Goncalves shared with Ghanasportspage. “Ghana has exceptional players, especially in midfield and attack, but their chances of qualifying are low at this point. They not only have to win but also depend on Sudan, who need just one point from their final two games. It’s a very tough challenge for Ghana.”
The Black Stars wrapped up their final training session on Tuesday and traveled to Luanda yesterday for their crucial qualifier.
