Asante Kotoko has terminated the contract of Physiotherapist Prosper Narteh Ogum

Kumasi Asante Kotoko has officially announced the departure of head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum. The former coach will also receive a severance package totaling $16,000. The decision comes after the team’s 2-0 loss to Nations FC on Sunday at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, making it the fourth winless game in the league this season. Ogum, who made his return to the Porcupine Warriors in July 2023, faced mounting pressure due to the team’s wavering form in the second part of the season.
Although his team was struggling, the coach was able to take Kotoko to the semi-final stage of the MTN FA Cup, demonstrating his tactical knowledge once again. However, the recent failures in the league proved to be an insurmountable challenge, with Kotoko now lying in fourth place with 47 points in the standings.
A Challenging Tenure Ends Prematurely
Prosper Narteh Ogum was hopeful about his second time with the team but the team’s inconsistency resulted in his dismissal after the 2-0 loss to Nations FC.
As a token of appreciation for his contributions and efforts during his tenure, Kotoko will be paying Ogum a total compensation package of $16,000. While it may mark the end of his time with the Porcupine Warriors, Ogum’s time with the team has seen him help the side to significant milestones, including leading them to the semifinals of the FA Cup.
Abdul Karim Zito Set to Take Over
Reports have touched on the possibility of Asante Kotoko naming Abdul Karim Zito as their new manager. In Ghanaian football, Zito is a household name, and the upcoming Matchday 29 encounter between the Reds and Aduana FC is expected to be the setting for the beginning of his tenure.
The next game is a platform for Kotoko to regroup and rejuvenate their season, also mount a more potent title challenge. Fans are optimistic that Zito can bring more inspiration, verve to the side in light of their poor show.
Looking Ahead
The firing of Prosper Narteh Ogum by Asante Kotoko suggests the club is under immense pressure from its fans and other interested parties. Even though this is a new chapter as far as Asante Kotoko is concerned, the employment of Abdul Karim Zito is a clear signal of good intentions.
Can Zito get Kotoko to climb back to the apex of the Ghana Premier League? Time will reveal those answers, but one thing is for sure – the Porcupine Warriors are determined to make that happen.
Stay tuned as the Kotoko embarks on a new chapter under their incoming head coach.
