All Debts on Accra-Tema Motorway Expansion Fully Settled – Minister Urges Contractors to Accelerate Work

Governs Kwame Agbodza Assures Contractors of Government Support; Completion Targeted for August 2027

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, has confirmed that all outstanding debts on the Accra-Tema Motorway expansion project have been fully settled.

Speaking to the media during an on-site inspection of the ongoing works on Tuesday, March 31, Mr Agbodza urged contractors to speed up progress and ensure timely completion of the critical infrastructure project.

“It seems that many of our major projects face challenges in relocating services, particularly electricity and water. The good news is that, as of now, all outstanding payments have been settled,” he said.

“We do not have any pending certificates for this project. It is important that you and the consultant work with the subcontractors to bring them back on site, since whatever was due to them has already been settled.”

The Minister commended the contractors for the work done so far and assured them of continued government support to help meet project deadlines.

Contractor’s Response

The project manager for the Accra-Tema Motorway expansion, Engineer Ben Sackey, reaffirmed the team’s commitment to completing the contract within the agreed timeframe.

The project is scheduled for completion on August 2, 2027.

The Tema Motorway, a vital transport corridor linking Accra and Tema, has experienced delays in recent months mainly due to challenges with the relocation of utility services such as electricity and water lines.

The government’s intervention in clearing all outstanding payments is expected to remove a major bottleneck and allow work to proceed at a faster pace.
