Akyimpimhene Endorses Kennedy Agyapong as NPP’s Best Flagbearer Choice

The Akyimpimhene of Akyem Abomosu, Nana Baffour Ayim, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote for a flagbearer aspirant who possesses the qualities of a good leader and has the nation at heart.
Addressing the media, Nana Baffour Ayim stated that while all five aspirants in the flagbearership race are capable of leading the party, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong stands out as the most qualified at this crucial moment.
“Although all five aspirants in the flagbearership race are capable of leading the party, the most qualified among them at this crucial moment is Kennedy Ohene Agyapong,” he said.
He noted that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had the opportunity to serve in government for eight years under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but failed to distinguish himself enough to merit another chance to lead the party.
According to the Chief, Dr. Bawumia, as Vice President and chief apprentice to President Akufo-Addo, did not demonstrate the leadership qualities required to warrant the presidency.
Nana Baffour Ayim further described as “baffling” claims by some supporters of Dr. Bawumia that he was sidelined in government, stressing that the former Vice President has publicly admitted that he was given ample opportunity to work.
He therefore appealed to NPP delegates to vote in the interest of the future of their children and the country by supporting Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, whom he described as a leader who genuinely cares for the people and has the capacity to deliver development for Ghana.
“Ghanaians need a leader who can bring discipline, create jobs, and develop the country,” he said, adding that “universities across the country have produced numerous graduates since independence, yet access to jobs remains a major challenge because leaders lack practical knowledge in job creation.”
The endorsement comes amid heightened campaigning in the NPP’s flagbearer race, with delegates set to vote on January 31, 2026. Nana Baffour Ayim also expressed concern about Ghana’s continued dependence on imported rice and onions despite vast arable land, urging a shift to leaders focused on practical solutions.
The Chief cautioned NPP delegates against being swayed by propaganda from other candidates targeting Kennedy Agyapong, noting that the younger generation, particularly Gen Z, is more interested in solutions and opportunities than in political rhetoric.
He concluded by urging delegates to make the right choice, warning that voting against Kennedy Agyapong could jeopardize the party’s chances in the 2028 elections.
