Akwatia By-Election: Voting Done, Vote Counting Begins

The Akwatia Constituency by-election voting ended on September 2, 2025, and officials are now counting the votes at 119 polling stations. The Electoral Commission (EC) said voting stopped at 5 p.m. Party agents, security officers, and independent observers are watching the counting process.

The race is tight between Solomon Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernard Badidoo Bediako of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The NPP wants to keep the seat, which opened up after the death of former MP Ernest Kumi.

Many people voted, despite some tension earlier in the day. Security forces are present to keep things peaceful. The EC is expected to announce the results later tonight.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) also promised extra security during the vote counting to ensure everything goes smoothly.
