Akufo-Addo Denies Engaging Mahama Over Ofori-Atta Case

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has firmly denied reports suggesting he has engaged President John Dramani Mahama to seek protection or safe passage for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently facing investigations by anti-graft agencies.

In a statement issued on December 16, 2025, Akufo-Addo’s office described the claims as false and fabricated, stressing that he has neither made nor considered any such request to President Mahama.

The statement clarified that although Akufo-Addo has personal and familial concern for Mr Ofori-Atta and acknowledges his service during his administration, this does not extend to interfering with ongoing legal processes.

Ken Ofori-Atta is under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over allegations of causing financial loss to the state.

Akufo-Addo’s office reaffirmed his commitment to democratic values and the rule of law, urging the public to disregard the reports suggesting political interference
