Akim Oda Woman Jailed 6 Months for Stealing GH¢1,384 Provisions from Employer

A 22-year-old sales attendant, Comfort Antwiwaa, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor by the Akim Oda District Court for stealing provisions worth GH¢1,384 from her employer’s shop.
Presiding Judge His Honour Kwame Ohene Addo delivered the verdict on Tuesday after Antwiwaa pleaded guilty to one count of stealing, contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The convict, appearing visibly shaken, stood silently as the sentence was read, with the court ordering her immediate transfer to the Akim Oda District Prison.
Prosecutor Inspector Emmanuel Amoako told the court that Antwiwaa, employed at a provisions store in Akim Oda New Town, was caught on CCTV on October 15, 2025, concealing items including 12 tins of milk, 20 packs of biscuits, and assorted beverages in her bag before leaving work.
The owner, Madam Akosua Mensah, reported the theft after reviewing footage, leading to Antwiwaa’s arrest the following day.
During interrogation, Antwiwaa admitted selling the goods to a neighbor for GH¢800 to settle medical bills for her sick mother. The recovered items were valued at GH¢1,100, with the balance unaccounted for.
Defense counsel pleaded for leniency, citing Antwiwaa’s first-offender status and family responsibilities, but the judge emphasized deterrence: “Theft from employers undermines trust and economic stability; a custodial sentence is warranted.”
