A joint police-military operation in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region has resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition following a series of shooting incidents in the area.
The intelligence-led operation was carried out by the Upper East Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Military as part of efforts to identify and apprehend persons linked to recent firearm-related offences in the district.
During the operation, one of the suspects, identified as 32-year-old Isaka Sabani, alias “Culture,” sustained gunshot wounds and later died.
According to the Police, security personnel retrieved an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition from the suspect.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Sabani was wanted in connection with a case of attempted murder and unlawful discharge of firearms reported at the Bawku Police Station on August 28, 2026.
The Police also suspect him of involvement in a series of shooting incidents recorded at Agenda 111, Aniisi and Gumyoko in the Binduri District on August 29, 30 and 31 respectively.
The Upper East Regional Police Command said investigations are ongoing and that it will continue to work closely with the Military and other security agencies to identify and apprehend other persons suspected to be involved in the incidents.
The Command has assured residents of its continued commitment to maintaining security, law and order across the region.
