Afenyo-Markin Urges NPP Members to Focus on Unity and Rebuilding After 2024 Defeat

The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to move beyond sympathy and concentrate on rebuilding the party following its defeat in the 2024 general election.

In a Christmas message to party supporters on December 25, 2025, Mr Afenyo-Markin reflected on the party’s loss and urged members to draw important lessons from the outcome, particularly the need for unity and collective action.

He said the period for expressing sympathy over the defeat was over and stressed that the party must now focus on practical steps to restore its strength and relevance.

According to him, unity remains the foundation of electoral success and must guide the party’s future decisions, conduct and internal discussions.

Mr Afenyo-Markin noted that the NPP had reached a critical moment in its history and that the commitment and resolve of its members would determine the party’s next phase of growth.

He also addressed public perceptions about the party’s readiness for power, urging members to demonstrate maturity, discipline and responsibility through their actions rather than mere rhetoric.

Looking ahead to the party’s upcoming flagbearer primaries, the Minority Leader appealed to party faithful to protect the values, traditions and legacy of the NPP, which he said were built through years of sacrifice.

He emphasised that safeguarding party unity and respecting its traditions would be crucial as the NPP works towards rebuilding and repositioning itself for future elections.
