Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says he is prepared to submit himself to any investigation into extortion allegations levelled against him by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi.
Speaking during Parliament’s emergency recall sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, Mr Afenyo-Markin challenged his accusers to formally report the allegations to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) or any other competent investigative body.
“If they muster the courage to report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared,” he said.
The Minority Leader said he would cooperate fully with any investigation if a formal complaint is made.
Afenyo-Markin Takes Legal Action
Mr Afenyo-Markin said he has already chosen to pursue the allegations through lawful channels.
He disclosed that he has filed two separate lawsuits involving individuals and media organisations over statements connected to the allegations.
The first, Suit No. GT 1029/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Adu-Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited and was filed at the Accra High Court.
The second, Suit No. GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Eric Agjei and Peace FM and was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.
He expressed confidence that the courts would determine the matters based on the evidence and applicable law.
‘Lines Must Not Be Crossed’
Mr Afenyo-Markin said his willingness to subject himself to legal processes represents what he described as taking the “high moral ground” in response to the allegations.
He also cautioned against what he considers unacceptable conduct in political discourse.
“There is a limit to political discourse. There are lines that must not be crossed, and these red lines, once crossed, they must be dealt with,” he said.
The Minority Leader further defended his record in Parliament, insisting that he has served his position with integrity, hard work and a clear conscience.
“I have served in this position with integrity,” he stated, maintaining that he has remained faithful to the responsibilities entrusted to him.
