Accra High Court Adjourns Daddy Lumba Celebration of Life Injunction Case to April 23

Judge to Consider Customs and Applicable Law – Respondents Could Receive Compensation if Application Lacks Merit

The Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Halimah El-Alawa Abdul Baasit, has adjourned the injunction application seeking to stop the planned “Celebration of Life” for late highlife legend Daddy Lumba to Wednesday, April 23, 2026.

The application was filed by Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, popularly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac, who is attempting to halt the event.

After Wednesday’s proceedings, counsel for the respondents, Stephen Nsia Opoku, told journalists that the adjournment was granted to give the court sufficient time to thoroughly examine the relevant customs and applicable law.

Lawyer Opoku added that the judge indicated that if the injunction application is found to lack merit, the respondents would be awarded appropriate compensation.

Event Details

The “Celebration of the Life of Daddy Lumba” is still scheduled to take place on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29, 2026, in Accra.

The two-day event is being organised by members of the late musician’s immediate family and close associates, including:

  • His sister, Ernestina Fosuh
  • His first wife, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh
  • Other members of the “Team Legal Wives” faction

These family members were reportedly dissatisfied with the funeral arrangements held in December 2025, which were led by Abusuapanyin Tupac.

The case has generated significant public interest as it touches on family disputes, traditional customs, and the right to honour the memory of a beloved national icon.

The court will reconvene on April 23 to hear further arguments and deliver a ruling on the injunction application.
