Abandoned Agenda 111 Project in Kasoa Turns Into Hideout for Criminals and Squatters

An abandoned Agenda 111 hospital project in the Awutu Senya East Municipality has reportedly been taken over by criminals and squatters after construction work stalled following the 2024 general elections.

The uncompleted facility, located at Jei River near Kasoa Ofaakor in the Central Region, is said to be about 41 percent complete.

Construction on the project reportedly began in 2023, nearly two years behind the original 2021 timeline due to land disputes. However, residents say work on the hospital abruptly stopped shortly after the elections, with the contractor abandoning the site.

Community members say the deserted structure has now become a haven for criminal activities and a breeding ground for wild animals, creating growing security concerns for residents living nearby.

According to residents, attacks and harassment involving community members, including senior high school students, have become increasingly common around the abandoned facility.

They also expressed concern that the incomplete hospital is located close to the Municipal Assembly, raising questions about security and monitoring around the site.

Residents insist the completion of the project is urgently needed due to the increasing pressure on healthcare services in Kasoa.

With a population exceeding 236,000 people according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, Kasoa is currently served by only one polyclinic and a mother-and-child hospital.

Many residents are therefore forced to travel to areas such as Winneba and Weija-Gbawe to access healthcare services.

Residents are now appealing to John Dramani Mahama and the Ministry of Health to intervene and ensure the contractor returns to site to complete the hospital project.
