Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, says he will join Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin to visit families affected by the recent violence in the Effutu and Gomoa areas.
A-Plus said the visit, scheduled for Saturday, will focus on families who lost loved ones as well as people who sustained injuries during the clashes.
According to the Gomoa Central MP, Afenyo-Markin proposed the visit as part of efforts to engage directly with affected families and support ongoing measures to restore lasting peace in the area.
“Saturday, he said he wanted us to come and visit the bereaved families and those injured,” A-Plus said.
He explained that the engagement with the victims and their families would be followed by discussions on a roadmap aimed at addressing the underlying security challenges and preventing further violence.
“After that, we are going to see the roadmap to implement towards bringing lasting peace. So I am all for it,” he added.
‘It’s a group terrorising people’
A-Plus cautioned against portraying the situation as a simple conflict between residents of Effutu and Gomoa.
“The issue is not too much of Effutu and Gomoa. It’s a group of people who are terrorising people that we have to deal with,” he said.
He appealed to residents in the affected communities to remain patient as political and security leaders work towards finding a lasting solution to the recurring tensions.
Three killed, 15 injured in New Winneba clashes
The latest violence occurred on Tuesday, September 1, at New Winneba in the Central Region, where three people were confirmed dead and about 15 others injured following violent clashes.
The incident is believed to have been triggered by a land dispute involving residents of Effutu and Gomoa.
The Police have since arrested six suspects in connection with the violence and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Additional security personnel have also been deployed to the affected communities to restore confidence, maintain law and order, and prevent further escalation.
The planned visit by the two MPs is expected to form part of broader efforts to engage victims and stakeholders as authorities work towards restoring peace and stability in the affected communities.
