16 Passengers Escape Unhurt as Kumasi-Wa Bus Catches Fire on Bole-Sawla Highway

Sixteen passengers travelling from Kumasi to Wa narrowly escaped a potentially fatal incident after the Yutong bus they were travelling on caught fire at Gbogdaa, a farming community along the Bole-Sawla Highway in the Savannah Region.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 4, 2026, destroying the passengers’ belongings and other goods they were carrying.
According to some of the passengers, they noticed the smell of fuel coming from the vehicle while travelling through the Bole District, before reaching the Gbogdaa and Mankuma areas.
They said the bus subsequently began overheating, prompting the driver to stop and inspect the vehicle.
The situation, however, quickly escalated when the bus caught fire.
The passengers managed to evacuate the vehicle safely before the flames spread, with none of the 16 occupants sustaining injuries.
Personnel from the Sawla Fire Station later arrived at the scene and worked to extinguish the fire.
No deaths or injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
The incident has, however, renewed concerns about firefighting capacity in the Bole District.
The Bole Fire Service tender is reportedly out of commission and has been unavailable for some time, leaving the district to rely on the Sawla Fire Station during emergencies.
The cause of the fire has not yet been officially established.
