14 Tamale Prison Inmates Pass NVTI Exams with 100% Success Rate

Fourteen inmates at the Tamale Central Prison have successfully passed the National Vocational Training Institute Proficiency Grade II examinations, achieving a remarkable 100 percent pass rate.

The inmates sat for the June 2025 exams in five trade areas basketry, general electricals, shoemaking, tailoring and textiles, and hand weaving demonstrating the impact of structured skills training within the facility.

The success has been credited to dedicated training led by Superintendent James K. Mbola, with support from Centre for Social Development Reform (CSD Reforms), a local non-governmental organisation.

The programme forms part of the NGO’s Prison HOPE Project, an initiative designed to equip inmates with practical, employable skills to aid their reintegration into society after serving their sentences.

At a certificate presentation ceremony held on April 14, 2026, prison authorities commended the inmates for their discipline and hard work. The Officer-in-Charge also encouraged them to avoid substance abuse and apply their newly acquired skills productively upon release.

He further praised CSD Reforms and prison officers for their continued commitment to rehabilitation-focused initiatives.

The achievement underscores a broader shift in Ghana’s correctional system toward rehabilitation, skills development, and reintegration—key strategies aimed at reducing reoffending and supporting former inmates to rebuild their lives.
