Youth in Adjakaa Manso Vandalize Queenmother’s Residence, Destroy Properties Worth Millions Over Land Dispute

Tension has escalated in Adjakaa Manso in the Amenfi Central District after a group of youth reportedly stormed the residence of the Queenmother over the weekend, smashing the windscreens of her vehicle and destroying properties estimated to be worth millions of Ghana cedis.

The attack is said to be linked to an ongoing chieftaincy and land ownership dispute in the community. According to local accounts, the youth were acting on instructions or in protest against the traditional authority’s alleged involvement in or control over a contested piece of land in the town.

In an interview with the chief of Adjakaa Manso, a self-styled youth leader named Kwabena Diamond publicly announced and circulated information within the community warning that no one—including the traditional authority—should work on or develop the disputed land.

The chief described the incident as unfortunate and condemned the destruction of property, emphasizing that such acts of vandalism undermine peace and respect for traditional institutions. He confirmed that the Queenmother’s vehicle and other valuables at her residence were deliberately targeted and damaged during the invasion.

The Queenmother, whose name has not been publicly disclosed in initial reports, is said to be deeply shaken by the attack, which occurred in the night over the weekend. Community elders and some residents have called for calm while urging the police to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Ghana Police Service in Amenfi Central has been notified and is expected to commence investigations into the vandalism, potential trespass, and destruction of property. No arrests have been confirmed as of February 23, 2026, but police say they are gathering statements from witnesses and reviewing available evidence.

This latest incident highlights the volatile nature of land and chieftaincy disputes in parts of the Western Region, where competing claims over ownership, usage rights, and traditional authority frequently lead to confrontation. Local leaders and the District Security Council are likely to intervene to prevent further escalation.

The affected Queenmother and her family have appealed for calm and urged the youth to channel grievances through proper traditional and legal channels rather than resorting to violence and destruction.

Further developments are awaited as police investigation proceeds and community stakeholders engage to restore peace in Adjakaa Manso.
