Ghanaian drill rapper Yaw Tog has opened up about the emotional toll of sudden fame, revealing that he felt deeply lonely after some of the people who surrounded him during the peak of his career abandoned him.
Speaking on Three Music TV, the Sore hitmaker reflected on the struggles that came with his rapid rise in Ghana’s music industry, particularly the pain he experienced involving people he had cherished and trusted.
Yaw Tog said he chose to keep much of his pain to himself rather than openly discussing the difficulties he was facing.
“I chose to take the struggles and pain straight to the heart and remain quiet,” he said.
The rapper also admitted that the experience left him feeling isolated at a time when his career was attracting significant attention.
“I confessed to feeling deeply lonely after being abandoned by many people who surrounded me during my peak,” Yaw Tog stated.
His comments highlight some of the challenges that can accompany a sudden rise to prominence, particularly the changing relationships and expectations that artists may encounter as their careers evolve.
His experience comes amid broader conversations about the pressures faced by Ghanaian musicians after achieving mainstream success.
Rapper Medikal, in a post on X, similarly reflected on the unpredictable nature of fame, writing: “You can be the biggest artiste in the country and become the biggest underground artiste in this same country in the blink of an eye, Ghana na your mate?”
Media personality and broadcaster Bola Ray also weighed in on the importance of personal healing and self-acceptance, stating: “True peace comes when you heal, love and accept who you are.”
The reflections from Yaw Tog and other prominent voices in Ghana’s music industry point to the less visible challenges behind the glamour associated with fame, including loneliness, isolation and the emotional pressure that can accompany success.
