Xandy Kamel Secures Arrest of FAST TV CEO for Copyright Infringement Over Unauthorized Broadcast of Her Movie

On July 31, 2025, Ghanaian actress and media personality Xandy Kamel, in collaboration with the Ghana Copyright Office and with support from filmmaker Socrate Sarfo, facilitated the arrest of FAST TV CEO Obed Mawuli MiFutsu at Odorkor Police Station in Accra.
The arrest followed Kamel’s formal complaint against the Accra-based television station for illegally airing her newly released movie, Unseen Beauty, starring Nollywood actress Uju Okoli, less than 48 hours after its premiere on her YouTube channel.
Despite repeated warnings from the Ghana Copyright Office, FAST TV continued broadcasting the film without permission, prompting Kamel’s legal action.
Kamel had publicly expressed her distress in a viral video on July 30, 2025, tearfully accusing FAST TV of undermining her significant financial investment in the project.
She appealed to the National Film Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts for intervention, joining other filmmakers like Mercy Johnson, Omoni Oboli, and Ruth Kadiri in highlighting rampant piracy by Ghanaian TV stations.
In a press statement shared on Instagram, Kamel emphasized her commitment to protecting Ghanaian creatives, stating, “I have always believed in standing up for what is right, not just for myself, but for every Ghanaian creative whose work is exploited or stolen.”
The Ghana Police Service has initiated investigations into the copyright violation, with further details expected soon. The case underscores ongoing challenges in enforcing intellectual property laws in Ghana’s creative industry, as stakeholders continue to demand stronger protections against piracy.
