World Bank Approves $1.57 Billion Funding for Nigeria’s Human Capital Development

Three Key Projects to Enhance Health, Education, and Climate Resilience

Abuja, Nigeria – The World Bank has approved $1.57 billion in funding to support Nigeria’s human capital development, addressing critical challenges in health, education, and climate resilience.

The funding is divided into three projects:

1. HOPE-GOV: A $500 million project addressing governance issues hindering education and health service delivery.
2. HOPE-PHC: A $570 million project strengthening primary healthcare services for reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health.
3. SPIN: A $500 million project enhancing dam safety, irrigation, and hydropower generation.

Dr. Ndiamé Diop, World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, emphasized the importance of investing in Nigerians’ health and education to improve employment opportunities, productivity, and earnings.

“The HOPE-GOV and HOPE-PHC projects will enhance service delivery in basic education and primary healthcare, while the SPIN project will protect Nigerians from floods and droughts,” Diop said.
